KILLER wins
16 people participate in high school rap battle
A rap battle between high school students, "UNDERGROUND 1 High School MCBATTLE," was held at City Jack on August 28th. 16 people participated, with KILLER winning. The event was planned and managed mainly by students from three high schools in Yaeyama, and was made a success with the support of volunteers from restaurants in Ishigaki City.
Participating high school students from three high schools - Yaeyama, Yaeyama Agriculture and Forestry, and Shigeyama Commercial and Technical High School - delivered punch lines and rhymed to the hip-hop beat, putting on a heated verbal battle.
The judges were the audience. They voted for the contestant who had the best sense of words, accurate rhythm, rhyme, etc. In the finals, Gani Hirata and KIJLERKHAJARR, who had won in the tournament, showed off their skills and came out on top.
MC battle culture has become established among high school students. This time, Kaneko Shinnosuke, who was consulted by high school students about holding an event called Shimauta Sanshin Live x Shimabuta Shabu-sha Agu-ya, approached them and, together with Daigen Kenrikiji of Music Bar ADN and Sakurai Yasuto of Dining A, secured financial and product support from restaurants and marine leisure businesses in Ishigaki City.
Kaneko said, "The event was a success thanks to the hard work of the high school students and the cooperation of local adults. Most MC battle tournaments are held outside the prefecture, so I hope that the event will circulate around the local area so that everyone can come and support the young people."
